Bluesound POWERNODE N331 Multi-Room Music Streaming Amplifier

$1,949.00

The Bluesound POWERNODE N331 is a high-performance music streaming amplifier designed to run a main stereo system while also making TV and home-theatre integration much simpler. Its latest DirectDigital amplifier delivers 100 watts per channel in stereo or 80 watts across three front channels, allowing the same compact component to power left, centre and right speakers when used in a three-channel TV or home theatre system.

HDMI eARC, BluOS, Dirac Live, Apple Music, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect with Spotify Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Roon Ready, two-way Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX support and a THX AAA headphone amplifier give the N331 plenty of flexibility beyond conventional two-channel listening.

For listeners wanting one compact component to handle Hi-Fi, streaming and TV audio without moving to a full AV receiver, the POWERNODE N331 is a particularly flexible option in Bluesound's current range.

Overview

The POWERNODE N331 is the higher-powered streaming amplifier in Bluesound's current range. It combines BluOS network streaming, amplification, TV integration and headphone listening in one compact component, making it a practical alternative to a separate streamer and integrated amplifier for many systems.

The biggest change over earlier POWERNODE generations is the amplifier section. Bluesound's latest DirectDigital design uses gallium nitride (GaN) transistor technology and delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo. Switch to three-channel operation and the N331 can provide 80 watts per channel to left, centre and right speakers. Bluesound also specifies IHF dynamic power of 140 watts into 8 ohms and 265 watts into 4 ohms, giving the N331 considerably more headroom than the compact POWERNODE EDGE.

That third speaker output gives the N331 an unusual role. Connected to a compatible TV through HDMI eARC, it can operate as a conventional two-channel system or add a dedicated centre speaker for clearer dialogue. Compatible Bluesound wireless speakers can be paired as rear channels, or a POWERNODE EDGE can be used to drive a pair of passive rear speakers. Add a wired powered subwoofer or compatible wireless Bluesound subwoofer and the system can expand to a streamlined 3.1 or 5.1 Dolby Digital setup. It is not intended to replace a full AV receiver for Dolby Atmos, height channels or multiple HDMI sources, but it creates a practical middle ground between a soundbar and a conventional multichannel AV receiver.

Connectivity is broader than the EDGE. Alongside HDMI eARC, the POWERNODE includes a full-size optical input, stereo RCA analogue input and a combined 3.5 mm analogue / mini-TOSLINK input. USB-C accepts digital audio from a compatible computer, while USB-A supports compatible external music storage. A dedicated RCA subwoofer output is provided, with wireless support for compatible Bluesound subwoofers.

BluOS remains central to the experience. The platform brings together more than 20 streaming services, internet radio and compatible local libraries, while Apple Music is now available directly through the current BluOS software. Spotify Connect with Spotify Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Roon Ready integration and Apple AirPlay 2 provide additional ways to listen without tying the system to one service.

Dirac Live is now supported on the N331 through current BluOS software. With a separate Dirac Live licence and compatible calibration microphone, room correction can help compensate for acoustic issues caused by speaker placement, room dimensions and furniture. In a BluOS Home Theater Group, Dirac Live applies correction to the front listening field rather than the wireless surround speakers. This is particularly useful in living rooms where the system has to work around the space rather than the other way around.

Headphone listening is also better catered for than on the EDGE. The front-mounted 6.35 mm socket uses THX AAA headphone amplifier technology, while two-way Bluetooth 5.2 allows compatible wireless headphones to be used as well. A proximity-sensing glass touch panel provides playback, volume and five programmable presets without needing to open the BluOS app.

From a Groove Central perspective, the POWERNODE N331 makes the most sense for customers who want one system to do several jobs properly. In stereo it has the power and control for a main pair of passive speakers. Add HDMI eARC and it becomes a very capable TV system, while the centre-channel and wireless-surround options provide a practical upgrade path without committing to a conventional AV receiver. Compared with the POWERNODE EDGE, the N331 is the stronger choice for a main listening room, larger speakers or anyone who expects the system to grow.

Bluesound POWERNODE N331 FAQ

What is the Bluesound POWERNODE N331 designed for?

The N331 is designed as a one-box streaming amplifier for passive speakers. It combines BluOS streaming, amplification, TV audio, headphone listening and optional room correction, with the added ability to run a dedicated centre speaker for customers wanting to expand beyond stereo.

How much power does the POWERNODE N331 provide?

It delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo or 80 watts per channel across three front channels. Bluesound also specifies IHF dynamic power of 140 watts into 8 ohms and 265 watts into 4 ohms.

How does the POWERNODE N331 differ from the POWERNODE EDGE?

The N331 is the more powerful and flexible model. It provides 100W x 2 rather than 40W x 2, adds a dedicated centre-channel speaker output, USB-C audio input, a full-size THX AAA wired headphone output and greater headroom for larger speakers and main-room systems.

Can I use the POWERNODE as a normal stereo amplifier?

Yes. The N331 works as a conventional two-channel streaming amplifier with 100 watts per channel. The centre-channel and surround options are completely optional and can be added later if required.

Can the POWERNODE N331 run a centre speaker and surround system?

Yes. The N331 can directly power Left, Centre and Right speakers at up to 80 watts per channel. Compatible Bluesound wireless speakers can be used for the rear channels, or a POWERNODE EDGE can power a pair of passive rear speakers. Add a wired powered subwoofer or compatible Bluesound wireless subwoofer and the system can form a streamlined 5.1 Dolby Digital setup.

Does it replace a full AV receiver?

For many simple TV and movie systems it can, particularly where the goal is strong stereo or a clean 3.1 / 5.1 setup. It is not intended as a replacement for a full AV receiver where multiple HDMI sources, Dolby Atmos, height channels or more complex surround processing are required.

Can I connect a turntable?

Yes, provided the turntable has a built-in phono preamp or you use an external phono preamp. The N331 provides line-level analogue inputs but does not include a dedicated phono stage.

Which streaming services does the POWERNODE N331 support?

The N331 supports Apple Music directly through current BluOS software, Spotify Connect with Spotify Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and is Roon Ready. Apple AirPlay 2 and the wider range of music services and internet radio available through BluOS are also supported.

Does the POWERNODE N331 support high-resolution and DSD playback?

Yes. It supports PCM playback up to 24-bit / 192 kHz and DSD up to DSD256, depending on the source and playback method.

What headphone options does the POWERNODE provide?

The front 6.35 mm headphone output uses THX AAA amplifier technology for wired headphones. Two-way Bluetooth also allows compatible wireless headphones to be used.

Is Dirac Live available on the POWERNODE N331?

Yes. Dirac Live support was added to the N331 through BluOS in May 2026. A separate Dirac Live licence and compatible calibration microphone are required. When the N331 is used in a BluOS Home Theater Group, Dirac Live corrects the front listening field rather than the wireless surround speakers.

Who is the POWERNODE N331 best suited to?

It is particularly well suited to customers wanting a powerful main-room streaming amplifier that can start as a simple stereo system and later expand for better TV or movie sound. It also suits listeners who want BluOS multi-room integration, wired headphone listening and room correction without using several separate components.
